Bluehost vs GoDaddy 2026: Which Host Wins?

Bluehost vs GoDaddy
📋Editorial transparency: Our team tests hosting providers independently. Some links on this page are affiliate links — if you click and purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences our ratings or recommendations.

Bluehost and GoDaddy are two of the most recognised names in web hosting — but recognition doesn’t equal quality. I’ve tested both platforms hands-on to find out which one actually delivers on performance, value, and ease of use. The short answer: Bluehost wins for most users, and GoDaddy is a harder sell than its marketing suggests. Here’s the full breakdown.

Bluehost vs GoDaddy: Quick Comparison

Our Pick: Bluehost for Most Users

Bluehost is officially recommended by WordPress.org, includes a free SSL, CDN, and domain on all plans, and scores 9.0/10 overall in my testing. GoDaddy charges extra for features Bluehost bundles in for free — making the “cheaper” GoDaddy plan often more expensive once you account for add-ons.

GoDaddy's Hidden Costs

GoDaddy’s entry-level plan doesn’t include a free SSL certificate or CDN. Once you add those, the real cost is often double or triple the advertised price. Always factor in add-ons before comparing on price alone.

Bluehost Overview

Bluehost has been around since 2003 and is one of the longest-standing officially recommended hosts by WordPress.org. It’s owned by Newfold Digital (formerly Endurance International Group / EIG), which also owns HostGator and Web.com — worth knowing for transparency. That said, Bluehost has maintained a reasonably distinct product from its stablemates.

In my testing, Bluehost consistently delivers solid shared hosting performance, beginner-friendly onboarding, and a feature set that punches above its price point. It’s my pick for absolute beginners and anyone building their first WordPress site.

GoDaddy Overview

GoDaddy is the world’s largest domain registrar with over 21 million customers. Its hosting product has improved over the years, but it still lags behind Bluehost in value and feature bundling. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress plans restrict you to one website per plan, charge extra for SSL on lower tiers, and replace cPanel with a proprietary dashboard that limits advanced control.

Where GoDaddy does shine: domain management is genuinely excellent, daily backups come standard on managed WordPress plans, and its uptime has been reliable in my monitoring. If you already have multiple domains registered with GoDaddy, there’s some convenience in keeping hosting there too — but it’s not a reason to compromise on value.

Performance: Real Test Results

I ran both hosts through GTmetrix, Google PageSpeed Insights, and UptimeRobot monitoring over a multi-week period using identical WordPress test sites.

Performance data collected using GTmetrix, Google PageSpeed Insights, and UptimeRobot over a 4-week monitoring period. Test sites used identical WordPress installs with the Astra theme and no caching plugins, to reflect real-world out-of-the-box performance.

GoDaddy’s raw TTFB is marginally faster than Bluehost’s on lightweight pages, but under load it falls apart. In stress testing with 200 simultaneous users, GoDaddy’s average load time ballooned dramatically — over 40 seconds in some runs — while Bluehost handled the same traffic with modest degradation. For low-traffic blogs, either host is fine. For anything with real traffic ambitions, Bluehost is the safer bet.

Want More Performance?

If performance is your top priority, consider SiteGround or ScalaHosting. Both consistently outperform Bluehost and GoDaddy on TTFB and server response times.

GoDaddy's SSL Problem

GoDaddy’s entry-level Basic plan does not include a free SSL certificate. Without SSL, browsers flag your site as “not secure” and Google penalises it in search rankings. Adding SSL can more than double your effective cost on the Basic plan. This is a significant transparency issue.

WordPress Experience

Bluehost is the stronger WordPress host — full stop. It’s officially recommended by WordPress.org, includes a one-click installer, automatic updates, and a built-in staging environment on all plans. The dashboard has a dedicated “My Sites” area for managing multiple WordPress installs, with individual controls for performance, security, and maintenance.

💡

Bluehost's WordPress Edge

Bluehost’s staging tool is built directly into WordPress — not bolted on as an afterthought. You can clone your live site, test changes safely, and push updates with a few clicks. This is rare at shared hosting price points and one of the reasons I recommend it for beginners and small agency builds alike.

GoDaddy’s managed WordPress experience is cleaner visually — it uses its own proprietary control panel instead of cPanel, which makes initial setup feel easier. However, the trade-off is less flexibility. You lose cPanel access entirely, you’re limited to one website per plan, and features like staging and CDN are locked behind higher tiers. GoDaddy also includes some exclusive premium starter templates on first login, which can accelerate setup if you’re in a hurry.

For WordPress specifically, Bluehost is the better platform at this price level. If you want truly premium managed WordPress, consider Kinsta or Cloudways.

Support Quality

✅

Bluehost Support: 8.2/10

Bluehost offers 24/7 live chat and phone support. In my testing, live chat agents connected quickly and provided clear, actionable answers. The knowledge base is extensive, though navigation can be clunky when searching for specific guides.

⚠️

GoDaddy Support: 7.5/10

GoDaddy’s live chat now routes through an AI chatbot before connecting to a human agent. The AI was surprisingly capable for simple questions, but for anything beyond the basics I waited 20+ minutes for a human — consistently. GoDaddy does offer text/SMS support and a community forum, which Bluehost lacks, but the wait times are a genuine pain point.

On support, Bluehost edges GoDaddy — primarily on wait times. Neither host is going to match the support quality of ScalaHosting or SiteGround, but for budget shared hosting, Bluehost is the more reliable choice when you need help quickly.

GoDaddy wins the security round narrowly — daily backups and malware removal on all managed WordPress plans is a genuine advantage over Bluehost. However, the lack of a free SSL on GoDaddy’s entry plan is a fundamental gap that undermines the argument. A host that charges extra for SSL in 2026 is asking you to pay for something every other reputable host includes for free.

Bluehost bundles SSL across all plans, which is non-negotiable for any live website. If you want the best security out of the box, the choice is clear.

Who Should Use Bluehost?

Bluehost is the right choice if you’re building your first WordPress site and want a guided, friction-free setup. It’s ideal for bloggers, small business owners, and freelancers managing a handful of sites who want everything — SSL, CDN, staging, and email — without paying extra. The free domain and WordPress.org recommendation make it especially compelling as a starting point.

It’s also worth considering if you’re building client sites on a budget. The Business plan supports 50 websites at $5.99/mo intro price, which offers good agency-level value without the cost of managed WordPress from Kinsta or WP Engine.

Bluehost may not be right for you if: you need daily backups out of the box, you want malware removal on the entry plan, or you need enterprise-level performance. In those cases, look at ScalaHosting, SiteGround, or InMotion Hosting.

Who Should Use GoDaddy?

GoDaddy makes sense in one scenario: you’re already managing multiple domains there and want to consolidate. Their domain tools are best-in-class, and if admin convenience matters more than raw hosting value, keeping everything under one roof has merit.

For anyone starting fresh and comparing purely on hosting quality, GoDaddy is harder to justify. The single-website restriction on all managed WordPress plans, missing SSL on the entry tier, and aggressive upselling culture make it a less compelling option compared to the alternatives in this price range.

GoDaddy is not our top recommendation for most use cases. See our best web hosting roundup for alternatives.

Why Not GoDaddy as #1?

GoDaddy is a well-known brand, but brand recognition doesn’t translate to best value. High renewal rates, missing SSL on entry plans, one-website restrictions, and aggressive upselling mean better options exist at every price point. We mention GoDaddy in comparisons for transparency, but we don’t recommend it as a primary pick.

Final Verdict

💡

Bottom Line: Bluehost Wins for Most Users

Bluehost is the better host in almost every category that matters day-to-day: value, WordPress integration, feature bundling, and support response time. GoDaddy has the edge on daily backups and domain management, but those advantages don’t outweigh the hidden costs and single-site restrictions that come with its hosting plans. For anyone building a WordPress site in 2026, Bluehost is the smarter starting point — and for users who want the absolute best, ScalaHosting and SiteGround are both worth a look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bluehost cheaper than GoDaddy?

ℹ️

Yes — Bluehost’s intro pricing is lower, and more importantly, it includes free SSL and CDN on all plans that GoDaddy charges extra for. Once you factor in those add-ons, GoDaddy often ends up costing significantly more. Bluehost’s Starter plan at $3.99/mo includes everything you need to go live; GoDaddy’s equivalent plan does not.

Which is better for WordPress — Bluehost or GoDaddy?

✅

Bluehost is the stronger WordPress host. It’s officially recommended by WordPress.org, includes staging on all plans, and offers one-click installs with automatic updates. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress plans are functional but restrict you to one site per plan and replace cPanel with a proprietary dashboard that limits advanced control. For beginners, Bluehost is the clearer choice.

Can I use a GoDaddy domain with Bluehost hosting?

ℹ️

Yes — this is actually a common and sensible setup. GoDaddy’s domain registrar is genuinely excellent, and you can easily point a GoDaddy domain to Bluehost hosting by updating your nameservers to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com in your GoDaddy domain dashboard. DNS propagation typically takes between 15 minutes and 24 hours.

Does GoDaddy include a free SSL certificate?

⚠️

Not on all plans. GoDaddy’s entry-level managed WordPress Basic plan does not include a free SSL certificate. You’ll need to purchase one separately, which can more than double the cost of the plan. Free SSL is included from the Deluxe tier upwards. This is one of GoDaddy’s most significant shortcomings compared to competitors like Bluehost, Hostinger, and SiteGround, which all include free SSL across every plan.

Does GoDaddy allow multiple websites on one plan?

⚠️

No — GoDaddy’s managed WordPress plans are limited to one website per plan across all tiers. Additional sites require purchasing a separate plan or paying extra fees. By contrast, Bluehost supports 10 websites on its entry-level Starter plan and up to 100 on higher tiers. If you manage multiple sites, Bluehost offers dramatically better value.

Is Bluehost owned by EIG?

ℹ️

Bluehost is owned by Newfold Digital, which was previously known as Endurance International Group (EIG). Newfold Digital also owns HostGator and Web.com. Some users prefer independently-owned hosts for this reason. If that’s a priority for you, ScalaHosting and SiteGround are both independently operated and consistently outperform Bluehost in testing.
